Chekhov to Pavel Basinsky and Victoria Milenko – are made; this makes it possible to clarify similarity in the authors’ views on the literary and artistic process and on A. I. Kuprin’s legacy.
Results. During the work, various points of view of the critical approach to the legacy of A. I. Kuprin were identified, and a conclusion was drawn about the need to master the basics of critical skill using the material used.
Research implications. The author has proposed a new approach to evaluate A. I. Kuprin work within the critical perspective of writer-critics.
Aim. To identify the features of use of sentences with defined subjects in A. I. Kuprin artistic text.
Methodology. The structural and semantic analysis of selected fragments of the texts of the writerэs artistic texts containing sentences with defined subjects is presented.
Results. The analysis showed that the use of sentences with defined subjects is associated with the compositional features of literary texts. The use of sentences with defined subjects serves as a means of actualizing the semantic content of the texts of the author’s pieces of art.
Research implications. The results of the study complement the information about the specifics of the use of sentences with defined subjects in the artistic text of A. I. Kuprin. The paper uses techniques for analyzing text fragments, which can be applied when studying the artistic text of different authors.
LINGUISTIC STUDIES
Aim. To examine the alterations in the semantic roles of lexical-semantic group units containing a component ‘money’ as both agents and patients in Russian media discourse, with a view to identifying their influence on the formation of public opinion, cultural attitudes, and moral values.
Methodology. To attain the predetermined objectives, the database of the National Corpus of the Russian Language, ‘Social Networks’ section specifically, was chosen as a recourse. The study principally focused on examples from the Telegram application, where it was observed how the agentic or patient qualities of money were emphasized with various lexical and syntactic constructions.
Results. The analysis revealed that money in media discourse can function in a dual capacity, simultaneously ‘actively influencing’ and awaiting action as objects. It was found that the use of diminutive forms and colloquial vocabulary imbues discussions with an emotional quality, thereby emphasizing the disparities in the perception of money among specific social groups.
Research implications. This study makes interplay between language and economic reality more understandable. By highlighting the influence of media discourse on the perception of money in society, it provides a valuable contribution to the existing body of knowledge. The study’s findings hold significant value for both further analyses of media discourse and for practical applications in the domain of economic journalism and sociology.
Aim. To describe the system of invariant matrices of complex syntactic units’ external forms.
Methodology. The invariant matrices of complex syntactic units’ external forms are considered in the study. Continuous sampling, observation, generalization, interpretation of results, and a comprehensive level analysis of a complex syntactic unit were used.
Results. The study has revealed that a complex syntactic unit has invariant matrices of its external form as abstract patterns that make it identified as a holistic linguistic unit which can be extracted from a text during its perception and reproduced in speech during its production.
Research implications. The results of the study contribute to the theory of complex syntactic units as linguistic units which implement expanded utterances.
Aim. To explore the semantics of the intensifying adverbs and their lexicographical representation in modern dictionaries.
Methodology. The semantic analysis of the adverbs with the high-degree meaning is carried out. The materials of the Russian National Corpus are employed. The intensifiers’ entries in the modern dictionaries are described. The following dictionaries are used: Dictionary of the Russian Idioms. Word Combinations with High-Degree Meanings; Large Explanatory Dictionary of the Russian Language; Explanatory Dictionary of the Russian Colloquial Speech (Iss. 1–5).
Results. The differences between adjective and intensifying adverbs in the grammatical and semantic aspects are analyzed; the syntagmatic factors of the high-degree meaning formation are revealed; the peculiarities of the intensifiers-adverbs lexicographical representation in various dictionaries are identified.
Research implications. The research results expand the notion of the degree words’ semantics and can be utilized in lexicographical practice.
Aim. To identify the role of complex sentences with temporal relations in composing I. A. Bunin’s linguistic personality.
Methodology. The structural and semantic analysis of complex sentences with temporal relations, extracted by continuous sampling from the short stories of I. A. Bunin, using the methods of observation, generalization, and interpretation, has been carried out.
Results. The article reveals the structural and semantic features of asyndetic complex sentences with temporal relations functioning in the short stories of I. A. Bunin. It is demonstrated how complex sentences with temporal relations reflect the writer’s figurative and associative thinking and help to compose an both spacetime continuum and narrative line of sentences.
Research implications. The article expands knowledge about the linguistic personality of I. A. Bunin in the context of the anthropocentric paradigm. The materials and findings of the study can be used in the analysis of I. A. Bunin’s idiostyle and idiolect, as well as in teaching linguistic disciplines such as Syntax of the Russian Language, Stylistics of the Russian Language, and Language of Fiction.
Aim. To analyze the features of the semantic and syntactic relations of the members of preposing syntactic series of adjective attributes, where second terms have an explanatory or clarifying connotation, as well as their punctuation.
Methodology. The researchers’ views on the relation peculiarities of members in such series are presented, recommendations on the methods of their punctuation are compared, the semantic and syntactic relations of the members of the series are clarified, their specificity is established based on the identified features; methods of observation, analysis, classification, generalization are applied.
Results. The semantic and syntactic dependence of the second element of the series on the first one makes it possible to see them as a kind of definition with complicated semantics, which implies their separation to unify punctuation rules.
Research implications. The results obtained make it possible to improve the understanding of the interrelationships of elements in syntactic constructions. The material, observations, and conclusions can be used in training courses on the syntax of a simple sentence.
Aim. To present the results of the work done in selecting material and writing a linguistic and cultural encyclopedia for preschool and primary school children with a migration history.
Methodology. In the process of writing, a comprehensive methodology was used, which is applicable in linguoculturology and linguistic and regional studies, and includes two main areas: linguistic, which aims to analyze linguistic units and identify their national and cultural content, and methodological, where language learning is directly linked to the study of cultural traditions and the history of a country.
Results. The structure of the encyclopedia “Hello, Russian World!” is presented, which is intended to familiarize children of a foreign cultural environment of preschool and primary school age with key aspects of Russian state symbols, history, and culture.
Research implications. The practical significance of the encyclopedia is determined by the possibility of using its materials in teaching Russian to non-Russian-speaking children, Russian literature, and traditional values of Russian culture, as well as fostering a respectful attitude towards them.
LITERARY STUDIES
Aim. To explore the poetics of the ballads “The Fisherman” and “Erlkönig” and reveal why they differ markedly from similar works by other poets while maintaining a visible external genre basis.
Methodology. The analysis considers the principles of descriptive, cultural-historical, historical-typological, comparative methods.
Results. Arguments are given regarding the fact that the lyrical element of Goethe’s ballad has a special property, it motivates the reader to an inductive-deductive perception of the poem, in which the energy of the plot is either centripetal (ballad) or centrifugal (parable); specificity is replaced by generalization. Thus, Goethe’s ballads take on the features of other genres, which are not always related to it.
Research implications lie in revealing the features of the lyrical element of the Goethe’s ballad and clarification of the technical side of this phenomenon. The results obtained can be used both for scientific purposes and in the field of teaching.
Aim. To analyze how the figure of Princess Sophia was perceived on the very periphery of the literary field – in the so-called popular print (lubok) literature. The material for the analysis is the little-studied popular print novel by Mikhail Yevstigneyev about Princess Sophia.
Methodology. The main research methods are analytical and comparative.
Results. One of the results of the research is clarification of the novel’s dating. Also, the history of the creation of the text was traced, its sources were examined, and the hypothesis about the compilation nature of the work was substantiated.
Research implications. Evstigneev’s popular novel is one of the first detailed attempts of artistic interpretation of the historical figure of Princess Sophia, notable for the fact that, due to its belonging to a peripheral layer of literature, it reflects not so much the author’s but the collective popular perception of the image of the princess.
Aim. To examine the objective world in M. M. Kheraskov’s novel “Numa...”, allegorically presenting historiosophical concept of the fate of the “Golden Age” in the development of humanity, considering the philosophical and historical content and allegorical “plot” of the book.
Methodology. Elements of cultural-historical, historical-genetic, comparative-typological, phenomenological, hermeneutic, structural-semiotic methods are used in the analysis; it is carried out in the context of the development of Western European and Russian “state”, “political-utopian” novels of the 18th century, considering the uniqueness of novel poetics in the normative-traditionalist era.
Results. The result of the conducted research is a connection of the philosophical and historical concept of Kheraskov, based on the idea of the “Golden Age” and its fate in the development of mankind, and the main structural levels of the book, primarily its subject matter. The conducted analysis makes it possible to understand how the subject detail functions in the text, the genre assignment of which does not provide for pictoriality, and to clarify the ideas about the development of the Russian political and didactic, Masonic novel of the 18th century.
Research implications. The potential of the subject area in Russian didactic-allegorical prose of the 18th century, as well as the development paths of M. M. Kheraskov’s novel prose, has been shown. The results of the article can be used in further research developments of Masonic prose of that time, in courses of Russian literature of the 18th century, as well as special courses on related topics
