Abstract
The section publishes of Professor N. Kondrashov’s articles from different years. The presented materials show the interest of the scientist in the actual problems of Slavistics and Humanities: in history and theory of science, linguistic personology, key issues of philological education, language purism, etc. In addition to the useful historical and cultural information, the works allow entering the circle of ideas and creative searches of N. Kondrashov. They contain the author’s engaging assessments and observations. These materials can be used in teaching University courses “Introduction to linguistics,” “Introduction to Slavic Philology,” “History of linguistic teachings,” “General linguistics,” etc.

Abstract
The article analyzes the well-known textbook of professor N. Kondrashov “History of Linguistics,” published for the first time in 1979, and that became one of the leading textbooks of this discipline in pedagogical schools and classical universities. It is emphasized that N. Kondrashov’s book was distinguished by the originality of assessments and the bold generalizations. It objectively showed the development of world linguistic thought from the ancient civilizations until the second half of the 20th century. The value of the book is also in the fact that the author didn’t go past the analysis of some controversial issues of linguistic theory and practice: the tradition Port-Royal “Grammar” in the Russian linguistics of the 19th century, the innovation of the Prague School, the discussions in Soviet linguistics of 1930-1950s., etc. The book also presents brief essays on the methodology of linguistics, the portraits of Russian and foreign linguists. The analysis of the textbook by N. Kondrashov entered the general cultural background linguistic sсientific searchings and problems of Soviet linguistics in the last third of the 20th century.

Abstract
The article is written in the genre of “portraits of linguists” and continues the traditions of historiography laid down by N. Kondrashov. The author presents the personality and work of philologist Hermann Günther Grassmann and three areas of application of his scientific potential: comparative studies, acoustics, and lexicography. Special attention is paid to his dictionary work - „Wörterbuch zum Rigveda“ in light of the influence on his work of the achievements of the Russian philologist O. Böhtlingk; and his dictionary „Sanskrit-Wörterbuch“.

Abstract
The article is devoted to the analysis of Slovak-Russian lexical isoglosses. Using materials of “The Slavic linguistic atlas”, the author believes that the general Slavic perspective is essential to understanding the true nature of the Slovak-Russian areal relations. It allows figuring out the following problem: which lexical parallels reflect and continue the relationship of the original system, and which indicate uneven implementation of the system of relations inherited from the Proto-Slavic era.

Abstract
The lexicographic representation of bribery and the semantic properties of its verbal signs are investigated. It is established that there is no word “bribe” in the synonymic dictionaries of the Soviet period; however, Russian synonymic dictionaries make it possible to build a rather long series of lexical units that convey the concept of official bribery, the dominant of which is the word “bribe.” In modern speech, lexical units that convey the meaning of official bribery differ in a number of additional characteristics. Bribery is marked by the powerful position of its beneficiary; the distinctive feature of a bribe being illegal for both of its participants. The “vector” nature of a bribe as an indication of the participant from whom its initiative emanates, allows to separate the bribery from extortion, however, the feature of preliminary conspiracy between the bribe participants, which was once present in the meaning of the word “posul”, and the feature of observance-violation of duty, which was once present in the meaning of the words “mzdoimstvo” and “lihoimstvo”, in the minds of speakers of modern Russian, no longer exist.

Abstract
The article deals with the problem of the existence of the Russian language at the end of the 20th century against the background of socio-cultural and political changes in society. The author identifies three main lexical cycles in the formation of the communicative portrait of the epoch. The change in the appearance of the language is associated with the processes that have received the greatest development in the 20th century: coding and codification; recoding - decodification - new codification, etc. The increased role of the administrative-territorial sub-paradigm of the Russian language in the creation of new speech models is noted. The author emphasizes that the 20th century influenced the change of language sign. The article deals with the problem of the sociolinguistic status of the Russian language in the pre-revolutionary period in the Soviet and post-Soviet times. The author says about the loss of the position of the Russian language at the end of the 20th century. Its role in the trance-ethnic space of post-Soviet Russia is noted. The author makes conclusions about the prospects of using the Russian language in Western Europe.

Abstract
The article considers nouns with the most common Nom.Sing. form. It has been established: 1) these words are united with the semantics of the independent actor, 2) the ratio of form Nom.Sing. indicates the extent of this independence, 3) idiomatic and grammatically related use of forms Nom.Sing. should be excluded before semantic interpretation of the words, 4) most of the words with dominant Nom.Sing. - these are singularoids with the extralinguistic motivation of the predominance of singular forms, 6) the boundary between singularoids and “normal” words can be considered 85% of the uses falling on singular forms.

Abstract
The article presents facts about the epistolary legacy of Olaf Broch, the first professor of Slavic languages of the University of Oslo. One of the interests of N. Kondrashov was the study of the history of Slavistics and the works of renowned scholars at the beginning of the last century. This was the period when the excellent works of the Norwegian scholar were published in Russia, works that are still fundamental in the study of the phonetics of Slavic languages. However, for political reasons, N. Kondrashov could not mention Olaf Broch, which explains the enforced lacuna his account of the history of Slavic studies. To point out this lacuna is equally essential for the history of Slavic studies as for the correct evaluation of the ideas and initiatives found in the works of N. Kondrashov.

Abstract
The article analyzes the works by N. Kondrashov on the Slovak language and Slovak studies in general, dedicated to the problems of dialectology, the history of literary language, as well as the activities of prominent Slavists. The importance of these works for Slovak studies is emphasized. The author draws attention to the originality and novelty of general linguistic problems of N. Kondrashov’s works. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of his dissertations “The category of personality in the Slovak language” and “The emergence and initial stage of development of the Slovak literary language,” which to date are unsurpassed in their field.

Abstract
The article gives an analytical review of one of the first detailed University textbooks on the course “General linguistics” (1972-1974), created by Professor N. Kondrashov. It tells about the stages of preparation of the scholar to collect materials and writing this book, his rich philological and life practice, which allowed to correct description of the significant milestones in the history of world linguistics, since the era of ancient Indian grammatical tradition and completing descriptive linguistics in the United States, new directions in linguistics of the second half of the 20th century and the stages of development of Soviet science. For the first time, the textbook deals in detail with the ideas of the Prague linguistic school. The article emphasizes that N. A. Kondrashov gave a competent analysis of the main linguistic concepts: the essence of language; language and thinking; internal structure of language; language and society; language and its development, etc. Attention is drawn to the fact that with the well-known Soviet standard and censored nature of such works, the course of lectures “General linguistics” contained exciting author’s findings and characteristics and generally gave an objective idea of the history, theory, and methodology of linguistics.

Abstract
During wartime, people far away from theatres of operation are anxious to receive news from the front. The present article deals with Swedish newspaper reports on the Great Northern War (1700-1721), a conflict in which an alliance consisting of Russia, Denmark, and Saxony-Poland faced Sweden and her allies, the Duchy of Holstein-Gottorp and, between 1710 and 1713, the Ottoman Empire. The article’s main focus rests on the reproduction of Russian personal names and toponyms in what was effectively Sweden’s sole existing newspaper during the period Ordinarie Stockholmiske Post-Tijdender. The publication was closely monitored by the state. The present investigation, which is based on an analysis of the entire body of preserved newspaper texts, offers new insights into onomastic aspects of the studied materials. These findings constitute important indicators of Russo-Swedish contacts during wartime and show the knowledge of Russian outside Russia during the eighteenth century.

Abstract
The article presents an analysis of complex cases in “Materials for the Dictionary of Old Russian,” created by I. Sreznevsky, indicated by a question mark. The author describes the decisions taken to identify unknown information in the 29th issue of the “Dictionary of Russian language 11-17th centuries”. Restored gaps help historians of language, lexicographers to use wisely dictionary articles in research, and critically evaluate the achievements of the past. The article demonstrates the practical application of modern methods of linguistic analysis in controversial issues solving in the field of theory and practice of lexicography.

Abstract
The scientific discourse in the 21st century contains the problems of the functioning of languages in multiethnic communities, the roles of imported ones, i.e. imported idioms in the language situation (LS) of the countries. Such imported languages, which develop in several areas, represent the macrosystem as a set of options, the fate of which depends on many factors. In countries with an external language that inevitably comes into conflict or competition with local languages, LS is most difficult to form. The pluricentric approach involves the LS consideration both as the life of a unified, dispersed language, and as the situation of imported and vernacular languages coexistence, a comparison of existence all language forms in the mainland and out of its environment.

Abstract
The article considers a brief study of crucial concepts of history in various scientific disciplines (history, linguistics, sociology, chemistry, etc.). The author gives a detailed analysis of the Slavic comparative lexicography key concepts (“comparison,” “juxtaposition,” “contraposition,” “estimation,” “system,” “invariant / invariance,” “variation,” “equivalence,” “contrast,” “identity,” “distinction,” “full/incomplete correspondence,” “language-standard,” etc.). The interconnection of these critical concepts with various areas of Slavic languages has been shown.

Abstract
The etymology of the noun baidak [river boat, barge] is somewhat obscure. The purpose of the article is to trace the etymology of the lexeme included in its title. It is absent from the literary language. We think that baidak meaning ‘river boat/river vessel’ is related to the verb idti [to go]. We can divide this noun into prefix ba-, stem -id-, and suffix -ak. Step by step, citing examples, we prove that these morphemes could exist in the Russian language. Thus the morphological and semantic analysis with elements of comparative research of the noun baidak helps us to clarify its etymology. The theoretical value of the results of research is an opportunity to use them when studying other regional nominations. Their practical value lies in the linguistic experiment that helped us define the etymology of this dialect word and draw the attention of other scholars to the unique cultural landscape of the language.

Abstract
Memories and philological sketches of students, learners, graduates, and colleagues of the famous slavist professor N. Kondrashov talk about interesting facts from the personal and scientific biography of a linguist, associated with our university in 1960-1990s. The authors of these memoirs - teachers, university workers, former and current employees of the Moscow Regional State University and other institutions from different cities of Russia and abroad - informally, with almost artistic lyricism and at the same time documentary reliability, reveal the traits, actions and rare facts from the biography of N. Kondrashov, show his unusual linguistic personality as a fantastic lecturer, mentor, friend. Fragments of the scientist’s letters, stories about meetings, and conversations with him are also published in the collection. Live philological portrait of the slavist augmented almost cinematic scenes, reprises, characteristic humor and language charm of N. Kondrashov - witness the contradictory linguistic “century of hopes and wanderings” in science and inimitable educator, thinker, burning high in the service of authentic traditions of studies in Slavistics and inform its spirit to several generations of undergraduate and graduate students.

Reminiscences of a former graduate student of Professor N. Kondrashov D. Arkharova is published here for the first time. The memoirs recreate the living image of the teacher not only as a supervisor, but also as an extraordinary person who absorbed the dignity and spirit of the controversial era of the 20th century. In these memoirs, the characteristics of the teacher, his human relation to young researchers is shown clearly and vividly. A portrait of the scientist complement the fragments of the living dialogues with him, figurative cues and special Kondrashov’s phraseology, makes him stand out in the environment of University teachers.

The publication presents a collection of autographs of the legendary Slavist Professor N. Kondrashov. These documents are extracted from the library and archival funds, as well as the personal collection of the author. These materials are of scientific value in connection with the recipients of the scientist. Among them, there were famous historians of science and philologists of the twentieth century. The book by J. Vendryes “Language: a linguistic introduction to history” (1937) with notes and the underlining by N. Abstract
Episodes of communication with the famous Slavist Professor N. Kondrashov at the end of the 1960s-1980s are described in the documentary essay. The author recalls the first meeting with the scientist and shares reflections on N. Kondrashov’s large-scale linguistic identity. The breadth of knowledge, unique abilities of a polyglot, high professional level and originality of ideas and works of N. Kondrashov are especially noted. The story about the linguist’s interest in the traditions of the Prague linguistic school and the works of later generations of Czech Slavists has occupied a separate place in the article. The author draws attention to personal traits when talking about informal meetings and conversations with N. Kondrashov and Professor I. Vasilenko. Social and scientific support and assistance of N. Kondrashov in philological searches at different stages of the author’s biography are shown with factual accuracy, sweet irony, and grateful memory to the teacher of more than one generation of Slavists of our country. The final chord of the article that people like Nikolay adorn our lives testifies to a rare cultural phenomenon of the personality of Professor N. The memoirs of a post-graduate of Professor N. Kondrashov embody a colorful portrait of a slavist and show him in the circle of departmental concerns and philological discussions of the 1970s and 1980s. The author paid close attention to the linguistic vigilance of the scientist, his enthusiasm for Slavic languages, openness, firm position, human irony, and high qualities of a humanist. Kondrashov is shown in the dialogues and authentic replicas. Abstract
The article explores word-formation models of borrowed verbs with Russian affixes and describes the functioning of hybrid formations in the slang of Russian-speaking gamers. The causes of verbal hybrids in gaming communication are analyzed. It was found that for the studied verb lexemes, the same word-formation models are productive as in the Slavic verbs, which is due to both intralinguistic and social, extralinguistic factors. The article demonstrated a high frequency of verb formation with suffixes -и-and-ну- / -ону-, as well as verbs with prefixesвы-, до-, за-, на-, от-, пере-, по-, про-, с-.

Abstract
On the basis of the National Corpus of the Russian language, it is shown that the current trend of modern Russian to loose of declension of toponyms of the neuter gender, ending on -ino, -ovo, is a consequence of the increased internal migration of the Russian population. As a result of migration, cases of communication among people with unequal background knowledge have become frequent, which leads to the development of analyticism, and in particular, to the loss of declension of nouns like Pushkino or Izmailovo. The fact is that only the use of indeclinable forms of these toponyms gives uninformed addressees the opportunity to determine that such toponyms are nouns of the neuter, and not of the masculine gender, for example, that it is mentioned a town called Pushkino, not Pushkin.

Abstract
The Adaptation Theory is adopted in this paper as the theoretical framework and develops a systematic analysis of the Russian translations in chapter titles of A Dream of Red Mansions (from the first chapter to the eightieth). Two editions of Russian translations are compared from levels of vocabulary and sentence structure. Each translation method used by the translator during the process of translation must adapt to a specific purpose. The chapter titles of A Dream of Red Mansions can be considered part of the novel, whose translation purpose is to realize the communicative function and to transfer aesthetic influence.

Abstract
The article presents an analysis of trickster archetype in contemporary British writer A. S. Byatt's works. The research aims to clarify its function that's achieved through the methods of Jung's myth criticism and intertextual analysis. The archetype is not only disclosed in features of characters images but is also displayed as the deepest layer of their palimpsest structure. The author concludes that a trickster opens ways to unconsciousness, which accounts for its horrifying influence on character building.

Abstract
The article aims to reveal the lyrical basis in autobiographic works of two Russian writers, one of them became a remarkable representative of the Russian Diaspora, the other one - of Soviet literature. The characters and situations from the tetralogy “The Gleb’s Journey” by B. Zaytsev and “The story of life” by K. Paustovsky are compared together with the realization of their literary destiny in young years. It is concluded that Gleb and Kostya consider the aims of their creative works differently, however, they are related by the understanding of their destiny and willingness to devote all their life to it.

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to reconstruct the creative laboratory of the poet in the poem “No, not you so ardently I love...” (1841). The methodology of this textual research is associated with a descriptive method, determined by the need for a detailed description of sources, biographical, psychological, as well as a structural and semantic approach to the literary text. The result of the study was the clarification of the specifics of artistic thinking and worldview of the poet, reflected in the authentic texts. The theoretical significance is determined by the identification of the features of creating an artistic image in the poetry of M. Lermontov.
