Abstract

Aim. To reveal the properties of the nuclear herms of the field of linguistic tension of a complex syntactic whole as a linguistic unit and as an integrant / constituent of the text.

Methodology. The paper considers the lexemes of the nuclear herms of the field of linguistic tension of a complex syntactic whole, functioning in the macrotext as signatures of an artistic image. The methods of continuous sampling, observation, generalization, interpretation of results and complex level analysis of a complex syntactic whole were used in the study.

Results. In the course of the study, it was revealed that the nuclear herms of the field of linguistic tension in a complex syntactic whole show the signatures of an artistic image as the signs that allow us to identify meanings that reflect both the author's idiosyncrasy, and the system of his worldview, as well as the contradictions of this system.

Research implications. The results of the study contribute to the theory of a complex syntactic whole as a linguistic unit that implements an expanded utterance.

Abstract

Aim. To consider the genre originality of L. Tolstoy's «War and Peace» in the multi-genre context of the ancient epic, as well as against the background of myth and ritual.

Methodology. The research uses the method of myth reconstruction, comparative and cultural-historical methods. The analysis of researchers' views on the genre of «War and Peace» by L. Tolstoy is carried out.

Results. The analysis has shown that the genre analogs of «War and Peace» are the Bible and «Mahabharata» to a greater extent than Homer's epic. «War and Peace» is not an exclusively aesthetic phenomenon, it is also a religious-didactic epic with initiatory-historiosophic pragmatics.

Research implications. Proposals for a more in-depth study of the features of sacred texts are introduced. Such techniques as anagramming, paronymic attraction, implicatures, and the introduction of foreign words are characteristic of the poetics of sacred texts. These techniques also play a role in the poetics of «War and Peace». The material comparing the motif structure and the image one of the ancient epic and Tolstoy's epic is summarized.

Abstract

Aim. To review the main patterns of realization and development of the meanings of perceptual verbs and their derivatives in legal speech in the aspect of general directions of representation of perceptual semantics and the main characteristics of professionally labeled vocabulary.

Methodology. Perception verbs and their derivatives as universal linguistic means of forming perceptual semantics are considered in the work from the viewpoint of the perceptual meanings systemic properties influence on their secondary conceptualization in the legal sphere. System-linguistic, functional, and cognitive research methods are used: the systematic categorization of perceptual processes in language and the correlation of this consistency with the patterns of functioning of the perception vocabulary in the social sphere, including professionally oriented social activities, are characterized.

Results. The conceptualization patterns of perceptual semantics in professional legal speech are revealed. Firstly, conceptualization is determined by the form and the nature of the perceptual process. Thus, the analyzed concepts of the professional sphere are formed based on the semantics of purposeful visual and auditory perception (look, listen). Secondly, the lexical consistency of the perceptual semantics conceptualization in legal speech is determined by the formation of two thematic groups of vocabulary: 1) designations of professional actions and functions, including the secondary meanings of the perceptual verbs themselves (to listen to the case) and the nouns derived from them (supervision, inspection, hearing); 2) names of persons according to professional actions / functions (supervisor, caretaker) and legal status (witness, eyewitness).

Research implications. The research develops the scientific ideas about the dynamics of the perceptual semantics development and enriching the arsenal of methods and approaches to the study of professional legal speech.

Abstract

Aim. To analyze of the features of semantics and functioning of linguistic units out of the corner of the eye and out of the corner of the ear and comparison of the results of this analysis with scientific and common ideas about peripheral visual and auditory perception.

Methodology. The semantics, compatibility and use of expressions (to see) out of the corner of the eye, (to hear) out of the corner of the ear are analyzed. In the course of the study, the methods of component, collocation, contextual analysis were applied.

Results. The semantic specificity and trends in the use of each of these expressions are revealed, the conclusion is made about the weakness of the traditional assessment of peripheral visual and auditory perception as merely superficial and accidental.

Research implications. The work contributes to the linguistic study of perception processes, its results can be considered in research on cognitive semantics and construction grammar.

Abstract

Aim. To analyze perceptual imagery of poetic creativity by B. Pasternak in their systemic interaction.

Methodology. The main research method is linguistic and stylistic analysis of the text using elements of lexicographic description, semantic and comparative analysis.

Results. The relevance of studying the perceptual worldview of the author's individual style aspect is justified, which is confirmed by quantitative indicators and the results of the comparative analysis of original and translated texts. It was revealed that the multidimensional perception of the world in the poetic works of B. Pasternak is verbalized through a complex system of perceptual imagery. Perceptivity underlying literary imagery has been proven to have to be considered as an important factor in text production.

Research implications. The theoretical significance of the study is related to the development of a model for describing perceptual images in their systemic interaction. The analysis of perceptual units is one of the most relevant ways to study the author’s individual style within the framework of a linguopersonological investigations.

Abstract

Aim. To identify the perceptual vocabulary that is used in the texts of Russian folk riddles, to determine its main features that are in demand in this genre of proverbs.

Methodology. For observation and analysis, riddles were taken from the collection “Riddles” prepared by V. V. Mitrofanova. Structural and semantic analysis of the proverbial texts was carried out.

Results. The inclusion of lexemes with the meaning of the perception in the guess proves the communicative significance of denotations for the paremiological picture of the world. The use of perceptual lexemes in the riddle part is due to the demand for perceptual semantics when creating the image of denotation. In this, the linguistic features of percepts play an important role, forming the stereotype of the image and realizing the playful nature of communication. Perceptual vocabulary performs genre- forming functions in the Russian folk riddle.

Research implications. Theoretical and/or practical perceptibility lies in the study’s expansion of ideas about the features of perceptual vocabulary in the structural parts of the Russian folk riddle and about the functional potential of sensory designation.

Abstract

Aim. To describe the dialect of the Russian Old Believers living in the village of Kunicha (Republic of Moldova).

Methodology. The article analyzes the dialect material collected by the author in the village of Kunicha, based on dictionaries of Russian folk dialects. In the course of the work, the method of field dialectological research was applied, involving direct communication with dialect speakers (direct observation and interviewing), as well as the descriptive method, including observation, generalization and classification of the material.

Results. Based on the study, the relationship of the dialect to the Russian vernacular dialects was revealed, in addition, a specific group of dialects was identified, to which the linguistic phenomenon under study can be attributed.

Research implications. The results of the study contribute to the study of Russian folk dialects.

Abstract

Aim. To analyze some notable trends in the latest Russian poetry on the example of the work of several contemporary authors.

Methodology. The main research method was the method of empirical observation of modern poetic texts, as well as the method of analyzing scientific literature.

Results. A number of trends in the latest Russian poetry is revealed, which is difficult to reduce to a single mainstream. This includes the tendency of the authors to depict unselected fragments of reality, the tendency to create ornamental texts-parables saturated with fabulous and mythological allusions, and the search for simplicity and semantic depth by the authors, which is expressed in the aphorism and conciseness of the texts.

Research implications. The study introduces into scientific circulation the texts of new authors that have not yet been studied in literary criticism. The results of the study can be used in the further study of modern Russian literature, in the practice of teaching literature at a university.
