https://doi.org/10.18384/2949-5008-2025-5-69-78

Abstract

AimTo analyze the features of the semantic and syntactic relations of the members of preposing syntactic series of adjective attributes, where second terms have an explanatory or clarifying connotation, as well as their punctuation.

MethodologyThe researchers’ views on the relation peculiarities of members in such series are presented, recommendations on the methods of their punctuation are compared, the semantic and syntactic relations of the members of the series are clarified, their specificity is established based on the identified features; methods of observation, analysis, classification, generalization are applied.

Results. The semantic and syntactic dependence of the second element of the series on the first one makes it possible to see them as a kind of definition with complicated semantics, which implies their separation to unify punctuation rules.

Research implications. The results obtained make it possible to improve the understanding of the interrelationships of elements in syntactic constructions. The material, observations, and conclusions can be used in training courses on the syntax of a simple sentence.
