https://doi.org/10.18384/2949-5008-2025-5-60-68

Abstract

Aim. To identify the role of complex sentences with temporal relations in composing I. A. Bunin’s linguistic personality.

Methodology. The structural and semantic analysis of complex sentences with temporal relations, extracted by continuous sampling from the short stories of I. A. Bunin, using the methods of observation, generalization, and interpretation, has been carried out.

Results. The article reveals the structural and semantic features of asyndetic complex sentences with temporal relations functioning in the short stories of I. A. Bunin. It is demonstrated how complex sentences with temporal relations reflect the writer’s figurative and associative thinking and help to compose an both spacetime continuum and narrative line of sentences.

Research implications. The article expands knowledge about the linguistic personality of I. A. Bunin in the context of the anthropocentric paradigm. The materials and findings of the study can be used in the analysis of I. A. Bunin’s idiostyle and idiolect, as well as in teaching linguistic disciplines such as Syntax of the Russian Language, Stylistics of the Russian Language, and Language of Fiction.
