Abstract

Aim. To analyze terminological word-combinations of one of the technical areas of scientific sphere - theoretical mechanics. To consider the main terms and syntactic models formed by them. To study the peculiarities of types of word combinations and internal relations between their members.

Methodology. To disclose the topic, the authors carried out syntactic analysis of a wide range of used and frequently occurring terms of theoretical mechanics. The relations between members within terminological units were studied in detail. The study was carried out on the basis of a selection of material from methodological manuals on this discipline studied by first-year students. The main methods of work were: selection and generalisation of material, structural, grammatical and syntactic analysis, descriptive and comparative methods.

Results. The most productive models in the formation of compound terms in the general terminosystem of theoretical mechanics have been revealed. The explanations of the prevalence or absence of this or that type of syntactic connection, peculiarities of the internal structure of term-combinations, ways of their formation in the language of scientific style are given.

Research implications. The results of the study allow to supplement and expand the ideas about structural, grammatical and syntactic features of the terminological system in theoretical mechanics.
