JOHN STEINBECK AND THE WRITERS OF THE SOVIET SIXTIES: THE MEETING AT THE EDITORIAL OFFICE OF THE MAGAZINE “YUNOST” (1963)

Abstract

The article concentrates on the event that took place during the Post-Stalin Thaw in U.S.-Soviet relations - John Steinbeck’s meeting with the young Soviet authors of “Yunost” magazine in 1963. The article is based on the memories of its participants - John Steinbeck, Yevgeny Yevtushenko, Bella Akhmadullina, Anatoly Gladilin, and archival documents related to the Steinbeck’s trip to the USSR in 1963.
