Abstract
When the novel «Fathers and Sons» by Turgenev was just about to see the light the overall critics surrounded it. The feedback about the novel was both positive and negative. The main reason for the novel being in the spotlight and attracting a huge attention of readers was putting the conflict between the two generations to the foreground. A famous critic Markovich had an original opinion about the Turgenev’s main hero Bazarov who represented a new generation in the novel. Apart from that, Markovich considered the influence of Bazarov’s ideas on young people. Thoughts and opinions of Markovich have a great importance as they give nonstandard answers to such questions as: is Bazarov a real revolutionist? What is the source of his nihilistic attitude? Did his views have any influence on the younger generation?
