Abstract
Aim. To identify the main trends in the academic literature about Griboyedov related to the establishment of Shakespearean influence on the work of the Russian playwright, to determine the most productive directions in the analysis of the problem and the prospects for its study.
Methodology. The key research method is the historical and functional study of the statements of Griboedov’s contemporaries, literary critical and scientific works related to the theme of Shakespeareanism in the playwright’s work. By comparing the conceptual principles of the study, a holistic picture of the assimilation in Russian science of the genesis of the Griboyedov artistic system associated with Shakespeare as a new “exemplary” author for writers of the pre-romantic and romantic era is embedded.
Results. The existence in Russian science of a special direction related to the study of Shakespeareanism in Griboedov’s work is substantiated; directions for future study of the problem have been identified, for example, the search for universal themes and motifs in Griboedov’s work genetically related to Shakespeare’s artistic discoveries.
Research implications. The established facts of Griboedov’s interest in Shakespeare and the ways of transformation of Shakespearean motifs in his work open up the opportunity to build a more holistic and dynamic concept of the creative development of the Russian writer.
