Abstract
Aim. To account for the main communication strategies and tactics used for conflict accommodation in virtual interaction of LiveJournal users during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methodology. Contexts are studied as a semantic whole in terms of the presented language means by means of linguistic and stylistic analysis. Thanks to pragmalinguistic analysis, author's motives, intentions, and attitudes were revealed. Contextual analysis ensured that the situation of text generation and perception was taken into account when studying the functional specifics of words and their meanings, namely the COVID-19 pandemic situation.
Results. The most frequent communicative strategies and tactics used by virtual communicators during the specified time period for conflict accommodation were identified, namely, persuasion strategy - tactics of referring to authority, reasoning/ persuasion tactics, exposure strategy – tactics of expressing distrust, self-presentation strategy – distancing tactics.
Research implications. The theoretical significance of the study is that it helps comprehend the process of controlling the emerging speech collision in a virtual interaction and offer options for resolving the conflict and continuing the interaction with the aggressor.
