“Scales of First Love” in t he Linguistic Space of the Novel by I. S. Turgenev “Asya”

Abstract
Aim. To examine the role of sound, the colour factor, and the role of smells in the poetics of the the main characters’ images of the story “Asya” by I. S. Turgenev .
Methodology. A model of an individual author’s description of the sound, colour, and olfactory segment is developed, based on a formalized continuous sample of material. A systematic description of the features of these components proves that these effects are one of the strongest markers when the author reports the psychological state of the characters.
Results. The corpus of linguistic units of semantic fields ‘sound’, ‘colour’, ‘light’, ‘smell’ in I. S. Turgenev’s story “Asya” is revealed. The main dominants used by the author in the context of exploring the philosophy of love as a fragment of the emotional picture of the world are identified, and a conclusion is made about their compositional role.
Research implications. The study of this material made it possible to identify individual author’s universals of the transfer of the character’s emotional and psychological state through several sounds, colours, light images. The practical significance of the research is determined by the possibility of applying its materials and conclusions in teaching the stylistics of the Russian language, the language of fiction.
