Abstract

Aim.   To study the semantic content of the floral images of cornflowers and lily of the valley in the novel “On the Eve” and the disclosure of their associative connection with the images of wildflowers in the Bible.

Methodology. To reveal the topic, analytical and comparative methods of studying literary text are used. Special attention is paid to the study of artistic images and details, their various functions in the text and their role in revealing the writer’s intention and position.

Results.  The result of the work was identifying the conceptual role of florosemantics and floropoetics of a literary text and a detailed analysis of the Gospel code, which is implemented in Turgenev’s novel through a system of motives for spiritual growth, spiritual pilgrimage, spiritual testing, spiritual trans -formation, and spiritual achievement.

Research  implications. The study of florotextual phenomena allowed us to expand the boundaries of interpretation and analysis of Turgenev’s novel, take a fresh look at the poetics of the narrative and better understand the features of the writer’s worldview.
