PERCEPTIVE VOCABULARY IN RUSSIAN FOLK RIDDLE

https://doi.org/10.18384/2949-5008-2023-4-74-84

Abstract

Aim. To identify the perceptual vocabulary that is used in the texts of Russian folk riddles, to determine its main features that are in demand in this genre of proverbs.

Methodology. For observation and analysis, riddles were taken from the collection “Riddles” prepared by V. V. Mitrofanova. Structural and semantic analysis of the proverbial texts was carried out.

Results. The inclusion of lexemes with the meaning of the perception in the guess proves the communicative significance of denotations for the paremiological picture of the world. The use of perceptual lexemes in the riddle part is due to the demand for perceptual semantics when creating the image of denotation. In this, the linguistic features of percepts play an important role, forming the stereotype of the image and realizing the playful nature of communication. Perceptual vocabulary performs genre- forming functions in the Russian folk riddle.

Research implications. Theoretical and/or practical perceptibility lies in the study’s expansion of ideas about the features of perceptual vocabulary in the structural parts of the Russian folk riddle and about the functional potential of sensory designation.
