Genre traditions of D. Diderot's philosophic prose in the book «To the Hermitage» by M. Bradbury
Abstract
The article considers the influence
of D. Diderots philosophic prose exerted
on creative work of M. Bradbury, a famous English
writer of the second half of the 20th century.
The book To the Hermitage represents the
reconsideration of the ideas of the 18th century
Enlightenment. The influence of D. Diderots
philosophic prose can be traced primarily in the
choice of genre. The comparative analysis of Diderots
works Jacques the Fatalist and Rameaus
Nephew and M. Bradburys novel To
the Hermitage reveals features common for
the both authors. The genre connection between
the texts is manifested through the use of the
interlocutory type of narration, mixed genre
forms and general genre freedom. This makes
it possible to characterize M. Bradburys novel
To the Hermitage as a development of the traditions
of D. Diderots philosophic prose.
