В статье рассматриваются различные толкования одной из максималь- но значимых составляющих американского самосознания в литературе XVII века - кате- гории равенства. Основной акцент ставится на различной интерпретации данного много- аспектного феномена в ранних произведени- ях колониальной литературы таких авторов, как Уильям Брэдфорд, Джон Уинтроп, Анна Брэдстрит, Роджер Уильямс и др., анализи- руется отношение указанных сочинителей к сути исследуемого явления.

The article presents analysis of equality as one of the most important constituent parts of American self-consciousness in the XVII century literature. It accentuates various interpretations of this multiaspect phenomenon in early works of such pre-national authors as William Bradford, John Wintrop, Anna Bradstreet, Roger Williams and others and shows the attitude of the mentioned above authors to the essence of the analysed category.
